With the purchase, LANDesk takes on VMware's “Protect,” which will now be called the “Shavlik Protect” portfolio. The acquisition expands LANDesk's user-oriented IT management market presence.
»Trustwave, a Chicago-based card payment security and compliance firm, has acquired SecureConnect, a Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance and network security solutions firm with services tailored to franchisee and multi-site organizations. The acquisition will expand Trustwave's presence in the hospitality industry as Eden Prairie, Minn.-based SecureConnect provides security for major restaurant brands.
»Ionic Security, an Atlanta-based cloud and mobile security start-up, has secured $9.4 million in investment funding. Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers led the round of funding, which also included participation from Atlanta-based venture capital firm TechOperators and security entrepreneurs Ken Levine and Paul Judge. The capital will be used to grow Ionic's engineering team, enterprise sales and marketing efforts.
»President Obama has appointed Nicole Wong as the White House's first chief privacy officer, according to reports. Wong was previously the legal director for San Francisco-based social networking company Twitter, a position she took on last November. She also served as VP and deputy general counsel at Google prior to her time at Twitter
